Did you know that some of us may have been born with a defect in our blood vessel wall? This defect could eventually develop into Fusiform, and if this defect is in our brain, it is known as an Aneurysm or Berry Aneurysm. Such a defect has a tendency to rupture, delivering fatal consequences for the patient. The signs and symptoms of Aneurysm are commonly unseen, and these can develop as early as our 30's through our mid-50's.
If you are hypertensive, a cigarette smoker, or someone who has a history of recurrent high blood pressure, you have some of the risk factors that contribute to developing Brain Aneurysms. However, there are also uncontrolled risk factors that trigger Brain Aneurysms such as:
Strong family history of brain aneurysms (familial aneurysms)
Gender: women tend to have an increased risk of aneurysms
Excessive alcohol use
Severe head trauma
Neurologists say that it is very difficult to know if a person has an aneurysm unless it already burst or ruptured. In case you missed it, here are some of the signs and symptoms of an unruptured brain aneurysm that you may not know about.
Loss of vision or double vision
Pain above or around your eye
Numbness or weakness on 1 side of your face
Difficulty speaking (stutter)
Recurrent headaches
Loss of balance
Difficulty concentrating or problems with short-term memory
Most but not all brain aneurysms will rupture, but these should be regularly monitored using a Brain Angiogram with Contrast as required by a neurologist. Here are some signs that you have a ruptured aneurysm:
Feeling or being sick
Stiff neck or neck pain
Sensitivity to light
Blurred or double vision
Sudden confusion
Loss of consciousness
Seizures
Weakness on 1 side of the body or on any limbs
All illnesses have symptoms that we tend to ignore before they turn into something fatal, affecting our loved ones along the way. Maintaining a balanced diet and practicing regular exercise are essential, but undergoing regular medical consultations is key to completing a healthy lifestyle.
